TPPSA Structure and Representation

Our Association is governed by our registered Constitution; our constitution can be read on this website.

Student Representation

Each year at the main campuses, students on each of the courses elect one or more students on their course to represent their interests; these Student Reps form a Student Representative Committee that democratically determines how their particular campus is managed, albeit under the guidance and umbrella of the Executive and the Constitution.

Smaller campuses also need to hold student meetings to determine how they will spend their pre-sent budgets.

These meetings are informally run but need to be minuted, including all students present to allow for the release of funding and to give public account to all students that the Association is acting in accordance with its constitutional and student requirements. Minutes are posted on campus notice boards and students can also request copies by emailing the Office Manager.

The Executive encourages all mature, responsible and fun-loving students to get involved in your Association. Please put yourself forward as a Student Rep. Past experience is not required as support is provided through the Executive, Office Manager and other Student Reps.

Executive

Our Executive are made up of elected students from Auckland, Christchurch and Greymouth; we can also consider appointing an Executive member from a small campus if a request is made from any smaller campus. Each of the Main Campuses elects its own Executive Member but all campuses elect the President who is constitutionally bound to be a student of the Greymouth campus.

To ensure we have continuity and experience in our Executive members, these elections are held the previous year and Executive / President Elect Members then have time to get accustomed to the role before taking office in the following year in January. Sometimes we have trouble filling one or more of these roles for all campuses and where that happens we will either appoint an Executive member for that campus or hold new elections for that campus in the New Year after Student Reps have been elected.

The Executive are ultimately responsible for the good governance of the Association, including setting budgets, goals and assessing what if any changes should be made for the betterment of students and the proper running of the Association; they meet monthly to consider financial reports and any other matters that arise. An Executive Member’s conduct must uphold the good name of the Association; be financially responsible and caring about the welfare of others.

Executive Elections and AGM

A preliminary date of Monday May 24, 2010 has been set for our 2010 AGM and 2011 Executive election results. Nominations will open well ahead of this date and again the Executive encourages any student who is pondering the idea of returning to study in 2011 and has a mature attitude; is financially responsible and; cares about the welfare of others; to consider nomination for the office of Executive Member and / or President for 2011.

Past experience is not required as support is provided through the existing Executive and Office Manager.

Administrative - To ensure continuity and good practice, the Association employs an Office Manager who also fulfils the duties of Secretary and Treasurer but is not a student member or a member of the Executive.
